Care guide
Simply Abeni Care Guide
Your Simply Abeni piece was made by hand and deserves thoughtful care.
Following these simple recommendations will help preserve its shape, texture, colour, and finishing details so you can enjoy it for as long as possible.
General Care
Treat handmade pieces gently and avoid unnecessary pulling, stretching, rubbing, or overloading.
Keep items away from sharp objects, rough surfaces, excessive moisture, direct heat, and prolonged exposure to strong sunlight.
When your piece is not being used, store it somewhere clean and dry.
Always follow any product-specific care instructions included on the individual product page.
Crochet Pieces
Cleaning
Spot cleaning is the safest option for many crochet items.
Use cool or lukewarm water with a small amount of mild detergent and gently blot the affected area.
Avoid vigorous scrubbing, twisting, or wringing.
If a product is suitable for fuller washing, hand washing is generally preferred unless the individual product listing states otherwise.
Drying
Do not wring out crochet pieces.
Gently press out excess water using a clean towel, reshape the item, and lay it flat to air dry.
Avoid hanging wet crochet pieces because the weight of the water may cause stretching.
Avoid high heat and tumble drying unless specifically stated on the product page.
Shape
Crochet naturally has some flexibility.
Avoid regularly carrying excessive weight in crochet bags and totes, as this may gradually stretch the stitches or handles.
If your item becomes slightly misshapen, gently reshape it by hand and allow it to rest flat.
Snags
If you notice a loose loop or snag, avoid pulling or cutting it.
Gently work the yarn back into place where possible. If you are unsure how to handle it, contact Simply Abeni before making alterations.
Quilted & Sewn Pieces
Cleaning
Spot clean whenever possible using a soft cloth, cool or lukewarm water, and mild detergent.
Gently blot rather than aggressively scrubbing.
Structured bags, pouches, sleeves, and accessories should generally not be soaked because water may affect interfacing, batting, structure, or hardware.
Washing
Only machine wash an item if the individual product listing specifically states that it is machine washable.
When machine washing is permitted, use a gentle cycle, mild detergent, and cool water.
Placing smaller pieces inside a mesh laundry bag can provide additional protection.
Drying
Air drying is preferred.
Reshape the piece while damp and allow it to dry naturally.
Avoid high heat, which may affect fabric, batting, interfacing, zippers, or other structural components.
Pattern Placement
For pieces made from printed or patterned fabric, placement will naturally vary from item to item.
This is part of the handmade process and means your piece may have its own unique arrangement of the print.
Zippers, Hardware & Embellishments
Handle zippers, clasps, charms, chains, and decorative hardware gently.
Avoid repeatedly pulling hardware with unnecessary force.
Keep metal components as dry as possible and wipe away moisture promptly with a soft cloth.
Avoid direct contact with perfume, hairspray, lotions, cleaning chemicals, or other products that may affect the finish.
Natural changes to metal finishes may occur over time with regular use.
Bags & Totes
Avoid consistently carrying more weight than the bag is designed to hold.
Overloading can place unnecessary strain on handles, seams, crochet stitches, and hardware.
When storing a bag, empty its contents and gently reshape it.
For structured bags, you may loosely fill the interior with clean tissue paper or another lightweight material to help maintain the shape during longer periods of storage.
Pouches, Sleeves & Little Essentials
Remove loose debris regularly and spot clean when necessary.
Avoid storing leaking liquids, uncapped cosmetics, pens, or other items that may permanently stain the interior.
AirPods covers, coin pouches, catch-all pouches, book sleeves, and similar small accessories should not be overfilled, as this may strain seams, closures, or crochet stitches.
Storage
For longer-term storage:
Keep your piece clean and completely dry.
Store it away from direct sunlight.
Avoid tightly compressing crochet or structured items.
Do not store heavy objects on top of handmade pieces.
Keep items in a breathable, clean environment whenever possible.
A Note About Handmade Pieces
Small changes over time are normal with handmade products.
Fibres may soften, fabrics may relax, and well-loved pieces will naturally begin to reflect the life they've lived with you.
Thoughtful care will help your Simply Abeni piece continue looking beautiful while still allowing it to be used and enjoyed.
Made by hand. Care for it with intention.
